The Garden of Me

I will reflect on my past
just long enough to learn
that my defeats do not define me
I will walk with the grace I have earned.

I will cherish each past love
and every painful goodbye, too
for each decorated my soul
with the most colorful hues.

I will ponder the future
for only moments in time
knowing it is uncertain
and tomorrow may not be mine.

Those dreams I shall hold loosely
but they shall be mine alone
A script that includes me
Not someone else’s, but my own.

I shall live each day fully
I know I am strong and can endure
Having been robbed of so many
When depression knocked at my door.

I will love wildly those around me
Knowing each day is our gift
Fleeting moments I shall cherish
No more days floating adrift.

Past, present, and future
All make up the garden of me
I shall dance among their flowers
The sweet fragrance gently breathe.
